More photos that I’ve scanned and liberated from my dusty slide collection. This slideshow is a trip not too long ago with one of my all-time favorite ski partners Veronika (she actually gave me many of these photos . . . thanks V!!) From the resort of Blackcomb we headed northeast through a valley bushwhack and up into some amazing glaciers. 5 days later we got back to our pre-placed car at the Wedge parking lot after doing a circuit of awesome ski lines:
James Turner was the prize. Steeeeeep with stable powder . . . unbelievable. Home to a hilarious First Descent story from the golden age of Canadian steep skiing, when my friend Ptor was racing the legendary Johnny Foon for the 1st descent back in the 90′s. Passing by Ptor’s tent late in the night, Johnny snagged the coveted line. This picture is from a climbing guidebook and was taken in summer. A lot more snow in mid-winter.
We then skied the two rad lines on the north face of the owls. The blue line has been skied before, but I don’t know if anyone has skied the red one. Definitely some of the most exposed turns I’ve done. Double click on pictures to make larger.
Finally we climbed the North Arete on wedge. For extra fun we had waited out a storm and had run out of food already. Gotta love trudging up waist deep snow on a knife-edge ridge with no breakfast in yer belly!

Nice trip! Just wondering if you climbed your decents? James Turner & The Owls in particular ? Great area, awesome getting after it!!!
Hey Dan,
Ya we climbed the routes. Turner was dropped by Ptor and Kettles I believe. But that was due to them chasing after foon. I’m usually pretty conservative when dropping in on big lines.
cheers,
trev
